More Olympic Success

Another successful Special Olympics event at Lee Valley Indoor Athletics Centre.

As always, our students were brilliant. Jamie and Charlie competed for the first time. Poor Charlie had to wait patiently for 4 hours for his events, which he managed brilliantly. I think he may also have been the only young athlete to do a proper sprint start and came away with a bronze medal.
Jamie ran a very impressive 200metres in 27.79 seconds winning Gold, with Bradley, so close to him, in second place. With these two sprinters in the relay, nobody else had a chance and so the Newbury and North Hampshire team had another gold.
Jamie managed a whopping 4.23m in the long jump. This was both a metre longer than his nearest rival and also what he had achieved in training! He should give some serious thought to joining his nearest athletics club.
Bradley won the long jump for his division and Esme came home with three medals around her neck. Golds for both her 60m sprint and long jump and the Newbury ladies' team won a bronze in the relay.
Luke won an impressive bronze in the shot put and ran well under 10 seconds to win the 60metres. You have never witnessed such a determined performance.
Nathan has gained hugely in confidence and won bronze medals in both his events.
Alisha won her long jump and was third in her 60m sprint.
John faced stiff competition and competed well in both events but just outside the medals.
All 8 athletes competed extremely well and it was a real pleasure to watch them so focused and determined. In total, our guys got 9 Golds, 1 Silver and 7 Bronze. We are all very proud of your amazing efforts.

We had 5 amazing members of staff supporting our athletes.
A huge thank you goes to Gill Foster, Matt Greenwood, Sharon Giles, Susie Bishop and Kelly Pascoe.
