September update

Dear Parents and Carers,

I promised to get back to you with some more information regarding September, which is why I am writing to you today.

As you will know, the DfE published its guidance on how schools can fully open in September. This time they did actually include guidance specific to special schools which is positive. The guidance is very detailed and it is taking us some time to work through and determine what we need to have in place to ensure our pupils' and staff's safety.

As it stands, The Castle School will be opening fully in the new term. This will mean that all pupils will return. We have not yet determined if this will be staggered at the start or if we need additional INSET days to prepare. This information, along with details on protocols and procedures will be coming out to you over the next two weeks. We will also be letting you know the class that your child will be in as soon as possible.

As I have said all along, we are all very keen to get all our pupils back into school. However, the first priority, quite rightly, has always been the health, safety and wellbeing of pupils and staff. The plans that will emerge over the coming two weeks will be the result of decisions with health, safety and wellbeing at their centre.

I hope that this gives you some idea about what we plan to do.

Your patience is much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Jon Hewitt
