Work Experience

Work experience sits at the heart of World of Work, and we work closely with the students to find experience that is right for them.

Work experience typically takes place once a week, over a number of weeks, and we work with students to match them with a role that is in line with their own interests and requirements. The level of “intensity” of work experience is adjusted to suit each student, and changes as they progress along their own personal journey.

The World of Work team are qualified job coaches and we offer on-site support throughout work experience, which is tailored around every student’s own needs and adjusted as we go forward. This includes additional tools and training aimed at moving each student towards independence.

We operate a “Three Stage Model” in our approach to work experience, that ranges from straightforward work experience (half a day, once a week over a set period of time) to Supported Internships, where a student spends most of their week in the workplace, with the goal of gaining paid employment.

Work experience creates a fantastic buzz around the school, particularly at Post-16, and students are usually very excited about the prospect and are keen to get involved. We often see huge developments in confidence and maturity in students who attend work experience.
